In the Anglican tradition, Choral Evensong is a sung version of Evening Prayer which is roughly the equivalent of Vespers in Roman Catholic churches and Lutheran churches.  Though similar to vespers Evensong was originally formed by combining the monastic offices of Vespers and Compline.  Typically the service includes musical setting of the Preces and Responses followed by a chanted psalm.  Choral settings of the Evening Canticles (Magnificat and Nunc Dimittis) are the customary responses to the two scripture readings.  The service continues with a series of petitions after which an anthem is usually sung.  At St. Luke’s, after some concluding prayers,

The service ends with the singing of a hymn.
